This two nights, three days camping experience on horseback is a perfect introductory adventure. It gives travelers with a tight itinerary a taste of Canadian Wilderness Camping. Ideal to fit into a round trip throughout BC. Or come and “unplug” from your busy “City Life”. Go back to nature for a spell! (Minimum 1 month notice). The minimum number of participants for this trip is 2. (There is a surcharge of $ 150.00 per trip (not person) for 2 and 3 ppl only) This amazing horseback adventure will take you through one of the most amazing parts of Wells Gray Park. We will be riding up Green Mountain and be rewarded with a breathtaking view down Whitehorse Bluff. Trailing along the Clearwater River Valley, lots of times we see eagles and bears and other wildlife. Following in the footsteps of native Indians and early pioneers one can see that this particular area would have been both magical and important to the natives and an attraction to the pioneer guides before us. The camp cooked meals and campfire music will make this trip especially memorable. Because of its beauty this is our favourite pack trip. Adventurous, sometimes challenging and fun!
Trip starts at 10 am at the barn at Hemlcken Falls Lodge. Up Green Mountain we ride and out to Whitehorse Bluffs. We enjoy the view while we are having lunch at the Bluff. Then we are trailing down to the Clearwater River and the historic McDiarmid Fish Camp. Here we’ll have to set up our tents, start to put the steaks on the grill and water and feed the horses. After this eventful day you will be enjoying Matt’s campfire music even more!
The next morning you will be waking up to the smell of campfire coffee and a hearty Canadian breakfast (bacon!!). Today we will be riding along the Clearwater River to our next camp. A more open landscape will await us. Here we will leave the heavy loads and ride further up the Hoodoo trail. Along this cliff we will have a great view into the River Valley and beyond. The trail will circle around and lead us to the Lower Hoodoo trail. From here we can admire those strange Rock formations (Hoodoos) from below. In the late afternoon we will get back to the River Camp and have another relaxing campfire night there.
Cowboy coffee and a good breakfast will give us enough energy to start our ride back to the Lodge. It will be a beautiful ride back on the Tote Trail. Impressive views will be part of this day as we will say good bye to the Clearwater Valley and ride over the mountain to the Green Mountain Look-out Tower that shows the area to the North East and West. From here the Helmcken Falls Lodge is a few kms below.
