This two nights, three days camping experience on horseback is a perfect introductory adventure. It gives travellers with a tight itinerary a taste of Canadian Wilderness Camping. Ideal to fit into a round trip throughout BC. Or come and “unplug” from your busy “City Life”. Go back to nature for a spell!
We meet up at 10:30 am at the saddling corral at Helmcken Falls Lodge. There you will meet your horse partner for the weekend. After an introductory lesson we will put the last bits on the pack horse and off we go. It will be a fun ride for about 3 ½ hours to our wilderness camp on Murtle River/ Pyramid Bay. On the way you will be able to see the Hogue Trappers cabin, the impressive Blackwater Bluffs and the historic Majerus Farm. We will stop for lunch along the way. Our campsite is under an extinct volcano, Pyramid Mountain, nestled along a beautiful stretch of Murtle River called Pyramid Bay. We will get settled in, put up our tents and you will have time to explore, swim in the swimming hole, take pictures, play and relax. We will serve a hearty camp cooked dinner and later on your wrangler Matt will get out his guitar and entertain you at the campfire.
You will be waking up to the smell of cowboy coffee and a Canadian style breakfast. After making our lunch for later and cleanup we will head out on a long day ride. Our journey will take us further into the park, up to Murtle River. We will have to cross the river at one ot its widest parts. What an adventure that will be!! On the other bank of the river we will find our trail towards Horseshoe Falls. At the impressive falls deep in the wilderness we will take a break and turn back. Another relaxing evening will await us at Pyramid Bay and of course a hearty meal and campfire.
We will get up to another hearty breakfast with campfire coffee. We will prepare our lunch, pack up the camp and head towards home. We will ride past King Hut and down McCloud Hill. The next landmark is picturesque Smith Lake. Before we will get back to the Lodge we will get a glimpse of the beautiful Hemp Creek Canyon and Waterfalls. PACKLIST for overnight-riding-trip.
